Maidenhair Fish Bowl

POSITION

A very attractive maidenhair fern, suitable for indoors in a well-lit position, free from draught and direct sunlight. Will also grow outdoors in a sheltered situation, free from frost and heavy rain.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY

Maidenhairs prefer a situation that has stable temperature and humidity levels like kitchen windowsills and sunrooms. They do not like being moved as this sets them back until they can adjust to the new set of conditions.

WATER

Water regularly, do not allow it to dry out, even for a few hours. If your maidenhair fern does dry out and its fronds turn brown, don’t despair as it shouldn’t be considered dead until there has been no new growth for 18 months. Just cut it back about 2-5cm from the base, give it a good soak, feed it and it will start to send up new fronds. If the plant has only just begun to dry out, plunge the pot into a bucket of water, keeping it submerged until the air bubbles stop rising to the surface. This will rewet the soil.

PRUNING

Prune back any damaged or dead fronds from the base of the plant to maintain its soft leafy appearance.

PET FRIENDLINESS

Maidenhair ferns are safe for pets.

GLASS FISH BOWL

Small - Fish bowl 15cm wide
