Plant care
Asplenium Australascium is hardy and reliable, they will require little maintenance providing they are in a well-drained environment - otherwise rot can take hold quickly. Grows over a good range of climatic conditions Australia-wide. Height will grow to 0.5 - 2m in height.
POSITION
It's good for a well-lit or partly shaded condition. Position plant in well-drained moist soil. It doesn't like frosts.
TEMPERATURE
Foliage 'burn' may occur if these pesticides are used when temperatures exceed 25 degrees C.
WATER
Avoid watering the center of the plant from the top because this can cause the roots to rot. Water regularly during warmer months and less in winter.
NUTRIENTS
Apply a slow-release fertilizer during spring and a liquid-based fertilizer every 4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose to avoid burn.
HUMIDITY
Responds well to regular spraying as they naturally thrive in humid conditions.
PROPAGATION
Propagate by dividing clumps or cutting from rooted rhizomes - through the spores that are clearly visible on the undersides of the fronds will often freely self-seed.
REPOTTING
Re-pot container plants only if they are outgrowing their pots.
PRUNING
Old, dead fronds can be cut away to keep them looking their best.
