Curly Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus radicans)
Plant Care
Lipstick Plants are an old favorite as an indoor plant being able to do well in any good well lit room or under artificial light. Flowers are produced at random times of the year and plants can produce buds every 2 to 3 months and create a spectacular flowering plant.
POSITION
Indoors they do well in any good well lit room or under artificial light. Outdoors they will only do well in sub-tropical and tropical climates, else they must be overwintered indoors. Lipstick plants need shade levels of 50 to 90%, in very low light flowers may fail to develop.
TEMPERATURE
Long-term temperature below 18C will be detrimental for the plant.
WATER
Lipstick plants require a good quality potting mix. In cold and wet climate bring plants indoors in winter and keep plant dry or provide a very well-drained potting media. Fertilize regularly and keep the plant well watered all through the growing season, reduce watering in winter during its rest cycle.
PRUNING
Plants are fast growing so regular cutting back is advised to promote thick bushy growth and mass flowering. Plants can be cut back when looking tired to encourage new growth.
